Additional Information: Gilbert Water Ranch is a series of impoundments of treated wastewater from the city of Gilbert.  The water has been treated in the Gilbert wastewater treatment plant and released into several large impoundments to allow it to percolate into the soil for purpose of recharging the aquifer.  The ponds are filled with fish and other aquatic life making it a mecca for water birds of all types.  The usual sightings include great egrets, snowy egrets, night herons, green herons, great blue herons, ospreys, cormorants and a large variety of puddle ducks such as mallards and pintails.  There are also generally a goodly variety of smaller birds such as flycatchers, red wing black birds and hummingbirds along with many shore birds of different types.  It is quite common to see the coyotes also.  With the right conditions the large birds can be quite active catching fish and frogs as well as fighting and displaying to each other.  The setting, although in the middle of the city, is quite removed from the street life and bustle presenting a quiet and peaceful atmosphere for observation of the wildlife and scenery.

Camera Equipment: Telephoto zoom lens (70-300, 100-400, 200-400) and/or prime telephoto lens and a good tripod are recommended.

Brunch: The good shooting is until 10-10:30 at which time we will retire to The Gilbert House Restaurant at 397 South Gilbert Road, Gilbert, AZ 85234.

Car Pools: We will meet in the parking lot outside of Angela's at 5:15 AM to form car pools and depart at 5:30.  Use the parking lot on the south side of Remington drive farthest from the restaurant.

Cost:  Passengers will split $20 for gas.  You will also need money for your breakfast or lunch as the case may be.  Admission to the Water Ranch is free. Parking is free.
