Additional Information:  For those who have not been on an overnight photo shoot before it is truly one of the highlights of Grand Photo Club membership. We will be seeking optimum light which means long days. If you cannot or do not wish to awake at 4:00 am on Saturday morning to travel to the dunes then do not sign up for this shoot, it’s not for you. This will be a photo shoot focused on specific locations but with sufficient time allocated to obtain opportunistic shots along the way, offering a lot of diverse venues in a compressed time frame.

The dates of our trip coincide with ideal sunrise and full moon rise times. A request is being submitted to White Sands National Park for late departure on 10 Feb. and early entry on 11 Feb. to Dunes Drive – our special permits that total $100 for our three vehicle caravan, allow us to leave late and enter the park early so we can make the best of twilight shooting. These fees will have to be paid prior to departure in the amount of $100 divided by the total number of participants (max. 12).

Sunset: 10 Feb. 17:45 @ 254 degrees

Moon-rise: 10 Feb. 17:44 @ 74.5 degrees

Sunrise: 11 Feb. 06:51 @ 106 degrees

Moon-set: 11 Feb. 07:14 @ 283 degrees

The times listed are for White Sands latitude and longitude. However, you will need to add seven minutes to the sunrise and moon-rise times because of the Sacramento Mountains to the east. You will need to subtract seven minutes from the sunset and moon-set times because of the San Andreas Mountains to the west. “False dawn” begins approximately 45 minutes prior to the listed sunrise time. “Twilight color” lasts approximately 45 minutes after the listed sunset time.
